The fundraiser featured a tombola, a tack sale and a picnic area, all collectively contributing to the worthy cause. The fun filled day saw three routes set up for the participants. Varying in difficulty, the routes were tailored for experienced riders, families and lead rein riders allowing all abilities to take part. Rosettes and awards provided by the events main sponsor, Bellway, were distributed to mark the end of a great day, and medals were awarded for those who raised over £50 in sponsorship.
Francesca Thorpe, Chairman of Quest RDA comments: “We are overwhelmed by the overall success of the day and couldn’t have gone ahead without the help from our supporters, both big and small. We would like to thank everyone who participated; particularly our volunteers for their time and efforts and our official 2015 sponsor, Bellway. We are delighted to have created this wonderful partnership with Bellway North London, which we hope will continue for many years to come.”
Quest is based at Laris Farm in Chobham, Surrey and has riders’ who range in age from four to 50 years old with a range of disabilities. The group was set up, in the first instance, to provide hippotherapy, a form of physical, occupational and speech therapy whereby the characteristic movements of a horse are used to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input. Other benefits for the riders include, increase in self-confidence and providing happiness for children who would otherwise be unable to connect to those around them.
The success of the sponsored ride has contributed to the upkeep of the group’s two horses, Jake and Bassett, and two ponies, Hunky and Ben and their vet bills, farrier’s bills as well as tack and specialist equipment such as safety stirrups, waist belts, ladder reins, special saddles and sheepskin rugs.
Zoe Dobbs, Sales Manager of Bellway Homes North London comments: “We are proud supporters of Quest, as the voluntary RDA group makes such a difference to the lives of people with disabilities. We are very happy to see the success of the Sponsored Ride and hope that this wonderful charity continues to go from strength to strength.”
