Written by

Drop-in consultation for proposed reasonably priced homes for local people on Mincing Lane

Saturday 27 October 11am – 3pm, St Lawrence Church Hall, Chobham High Street

Wednesday 14 November 6:30pm – 8:30pm, St Lawrence Church Hall, Chobham High Street

Please drop in during these times to see our current proposals and provide your feedback

  • Chobham, and Surrey as a whole, has become unaffordable for many local people earning ordinary salaries, who want to stay connected with their local friends, family and network. Average house prices in Surrey Heath are now over 11 times the median income.
  • A recent Housing Needs Survey (June 2018) identified a need for at least 33 new, affordable homes for local people in Chobham, with more people also registered on the Custom and Self-Build Register.
  • We have set up a Community Land Trust to help design, own and manage a housing scheme sold at permanent discounts to market value. It will be prioritised for people with a local connection to the village.
  • We are preparing a proposal for 30 homes on a site halfway along Mincing Lane. The site has been identified by Surrey Heath Borough Council as suitable for up to 35 homes as a Rural Exception site. The site details are available via this link: bit.ly/2CK6rTT

We will develop the scheme using our sustainability framework, One Planet Living. The following is our vision for the scheme:

  • Affordable – below market values in perpetuity with community-governance over land
  • Custom Build – occupants and community actively engaged in the design process
  • Community living - communal gardens and facilities
  • Intergenerational – range of sizes to attract young families to retirees
  • Living in the nature – surrounded by mature trees and enhanced biodiversity
  • Offsite manufacture - low impact construction method and materials
  • Net zero carbon – powered using on and offsite renewable energy
  • Low impact lifestyles – easy and convenient to make sustainable choices
