Products and Services Details

Dogs in Need is a registered charity which seeks to place unwanted dogs in suitable new homes. We are currently homing an average of about 3 dogs per week.

Although our administrative base is in Chobham, we operate throughout the southern Home Counties and have access to kennels in Pulborough, West Sussex, and in Guildford.

Dogs come to us in two ways. Their present owners choose to contact us because they no longer wish to keep their dog, typical causes being illness, emigration, marriage break-up, behavioural problems (often because the owners work and leave the dog alone), allergies and even the imminent arrival of a baby! We also take on dogs which have been dumped; we have good relationships with local Dog Wardens and Vets and we also respond to pleas from large conurbations, in particular Southampton and South Wales.

Wherever possible, we seek to move dogs directly from their old to their new home so that they avoid the trauma of kennelling. Where we cannot do this, we put the dogs into one of our kennels, or, if we can find one, a foster home. Whilst the dogs are in our care they will receive all necessary veterinary treatment, including the spaying of bitches.

All potential new homes are visited by one of our volunteers both before and after homing. A secure garden is essential, but we also look to ensure, as far as we can, that dog and new home are compatible.

DOGS IN NEED is financed by transfer fees and donations.
